PRIORITIES
My priorities are pretty straight forward. I am a student so school is one. Everything that comes along with school is one as well (grades, student council, color guard, etc.). I take these things very seriously. I try hard and always try to do better when it comes to these things because in my life they are important.
Another priority is family. As a daughter, sister, niece, aunt, and anything else I am I consider a big deal. I am a daughter of divorced parents, I am the sister of seven siblings, and many other things too. I would say all family lines up on my priority list the same, but we know that is untrue. Immediate family defiantly has a higher rank than other family members. However, that doesn't affect my love for them!
Rainy days
I normally dread these days. They cause me to feel drowsy, tired, and all I want to do is stay in bed and sleep. These days cause too many feelings, not to mention hard to deal with. This is not great, unless it's a Saturday, or maybe even a Sunday. On weekends sure rainy days are fine, because I can sleep in and stay in bed and be lazy.
However, what about school days? You know when i have to get out of the house and go somewhere. When I spend twenty minutes doing my make up just to have it ruined by rain, or maybe when I do my hair really pretty and that too is ruined by rain. I dread these days. Rainy days are not my days.
Dummy Hoy and overcoming his fears
(Sports)
For those who don't know Dummy/ William Hoy is a deaf and mute baseball player from the 1800's. After he graduated high school he was offered to play professional baseball, and the fear of being deaf and mute was not going to stop him from taking that offer! Although he tried not letting his deafness and fears hinder him they did eventually cause him to hit a wall in his career, because although he was good at baseball he had no way to communicate with his teammates, empires, or even fans other the writing things down. This became a problem because he didn't know if it was a ball or a strike and he would be made fun of. After having enough of the problem in one of his games he ran into the locker room and feared he wouldn't be able to continue playing because of the lack of communication. However, he soon realized signing was the answer to overcoming this fear and all he had to do was purpose it to the empire. With fear, faith, and hope he went to the empire and proposed if it was a strike he raise his right hand and if it was a strike to raise his left hand. The empire agreed and Dummy was back in the game, because he didn't let fear keep him from doing what he wants and he worked around his fear and came up with a solution!
(Technology)
Dummy wanted to get better at all aspects of the game, but in the 1800's electricity was limited. until in today's time they didn't have ever resource we did. However, he didn't let that stop him. with ever second of light in the day he practiced hard and didn't let fear stop him. he over came his fear and worked and worked until he became as good as he wanted to be.
(Literature)
Dummy had many fears, because he was a deaf and mute and a baseball player. He wanted to play big time and have his picture in the news paper.Soon enough after years of hard work and hours upon hours of practice and overcoming his fears of being deaf and mute he was asked to play professional.
(Arts & Entertainment)
Ever since he was little he was a performer. Even though he never though he'd get that far and had many fears due to being deaf and mute he still did what he loved and managed to work his fear out of the picture so he could play baseball. Soon after graduating he was asked to play professionally, and in front of hundreds of people.
(Observations)
Dummy was deaf and mute and had fears of always being seen as just that. However odds fell in his favor as he was good at baseball. Now many people is deaf culture see him as a hero.
(History)
Dummy didn't know that one hundred and forty years later we would still talk about the deaf and mute baseball player that over came his fears of not playing and not communicating and all these other ones. Now people realize that baseball evolved because of a deaf and mute boy. I mean after all did you know he created the signals in baseball? You do now!
(News)
Dummy was not only a deaf and mute who wanted to play baseball and had to overcome his fears; he was overcoming his fears and setting future boys and girls with deafness up for success. Dummy let people know it is and will always be possible.
Night time!
Some people will tell you I'm a morning person ,and some will say I'm a night owl. In my own mind though I've always liked night better. I probably always will, because what's not to love about night.
Nights been my favorite, because of the sounds. The crickets, The wind, I love all of it! Plus the stars, and moon shine bright. Nature seems to be alive, and I too become more alive.
My Spring Break Adventures
My spring break this year was quite boring if I do say so myself. I didn't do much. However, I did enjoy my time at home and sleeping in and many other things. Here's what my spring break consisted of.
When school got out on Friday I went home and took a nap. On Saturday I had a fundraiser for color guard until one, and then when that was over I left town. Saturday night I arrived in Fredericksburg, and that night we went out to dinner, and I don't remember much after that. Sunday I went to a baby shower for my step moms high school best friend, and then we headed back home. Monday I went to the Dallas World Aquarium, and Grapevine Mall with my very close friend Harriet. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday my mom, sisters, and I went shopping for decorations for my little sisters second birthday. Friday we hung out with friends, Saturday I had another color guard event, and Sunday I prepared for school.
My Point Of View
My name is Jim, and little do people know I have a secret. I'm in love with a girl who use me, and I love how she use me to fix the mistakes she makes with me. Her name is Jade, ans boy oh boy is she beautiful. I want to tell you all about her.
She uses me daily for the task she knows she'll need me for. We take notes daily, and sometimes if I'm lucky she writes too fast and messes up, or sometimes even spells something wrong so then she has to use me more. I always love her ability to use me for her knowledge, but sometimes things are harder. On the days she frustrated, those days are tough, she tights her grip and grits her teeth. However, I still love to be around and help when she needs. Sometimes when she talks about her life I get sad, yet I remember that I'm helping in the best way I can. It makes me sad that I can't help her more because I love her. I wish, with all my heart, that one day I'll do more, but I am a pencil and there's not much more I can do.
FREE
I have many things that going on from day to day, and from hour to hour. However, I am sometimes afraid to face the day. I suffer from many things others do too. Lack of motivation, tiredness, and depression too. Days got harder, but for the sake of everyone around me I face them anyways.
Most people don't know this about me because I try hard to hide it. I have six siblings, teammates, parents, teachers, friends, and other people that make it hard for me to not be okay. I try many different coping mechanisms on a daily bases so that I can even get through the day. I haven't found many that work, but I did find one. Knowledge. I love to learn and absorb things I hadn't known before. This makes me feel free. Free from fear, and worry, maybe stress too. People don't know this about me as well. Mainly because I am an average learner who sometimes has a hard time in school, but it's with out a doubt true. Learning is my wings and with my wings I soar. Soaring is freedom, and that my friend is my free.
Real World Problem Solving
One benefit of digital portfolios is the ability students have. It's no secret that students have a hard time expressing themselves, communicating, and showing what they're capable of. However, using technology can help this problem and lead students further in their education. On the flip side one challenge of using a digital portfolio often faced is that students don't know what they can do. This would be easier to use if students knew how to work with the program they're trying to use. One change i would recommend would be to teach users how to use the program so they're not being held back by the lack of knowledge of the program they're trying to work with.
My opinion. (part one)
In my English class on May 15,2018 I was asked when do you become an adult. The answer to that is simple, and that answer is everyone is different and the time for everyone will be different. You may not agree, but if you will please continue reading. You may be surprised.
It is no surprise that even between both genders youth mature at different rates, but in my opinion even if you are the same gender you can still take a longer or shorter time to mature than someone else. To me maturing is what leads you to becoming an adult. Becoming an adult is not an age, but rather when you can make healthy decisions and provide for yourself. If you think about it there are some teenagers doing what someone at the age of 30 does. So why is a teenager not considered an adult when they are capable and doing the same thing and making rational decisions as someone who is a decade or more older than them. This is why i think becoming an adult is based more an maturity than age.
My opinion (part two)
I have very strong feelings towards a topic that I would now like to take a moment to discuss with you. The topic is does technology make us more alone? My answer would have to be yes, technology does make us more alone, and here is why. Please continue.
Although we can connect with people further away we hinder ourselves from people within the same communities. This can cause many opportunities to be missed by many Americans who spend on average 10 hours a day looking at some form of a screen. With all the time we look at a screen we can meet 5,000 new people, fly to a new place we haven't been, tell 1,000 jokes, and make someones day. In fact many of what I just named could be done in less time! We look at a screen instead of playing games, meeting people, and doing other things that could help with many mental and physical health's. These are all ways technology makes us more alone and there are definitely more.
Is school teaching you the skills needed to be successful in life?
In the world we live in there is a thing everyone goes through, but not everyone finishes. This thing is something everyone has very strong opinions about. No one knows the right answers, no one knows if someone is right or wrong, and no one really knows if we learn what we need to be successful. This thing is something we call school, and in my opinion I do not think students learn what they need to be successful.
I am one who has very strong opinions about school, and this one is something I do feel very strongly towards. I am a 14 year old girl who has always loved school, but I've seen my peers do things that I won't learn until I'm thrown into the world. For example, writing a resume. When applying for a job in most cases I will need a resume, and I have no idea how to create/ fill one out simply because I was not taught how.
Another example of thing I do not know how to do is taxes, filling out a job application, manage money, set up a savings account, choose a collage, and many more. In most cases this would be easy to learn on my own, but is that really going to set me up for success? Is just letting me figure it out better when you have ways to leach and guide me? If you can help someone why would you not? I think there sound be a class offered at all high schools called "life" that students can take if they'd like. This class could teach them how to manage money, do taxes, create a resume, research plans for their futures, and many other things.
Do we give kids too many trophies?
Throughout a kids childhood if a child is involved in something they normally get rewarded for that. However, in my opinion I believe a child is rewarded for something rather less important compared to the things we could be teaching them, and rewarding them for. Little do people actually know what they're causing, and here is the sad truth.
Parker Abate (a sophomore athlete who studies communications at Misericordia University in Dallas) says "If children always receive a trophy — regardless of effort or achievement — we’re teaching kids that losing is so terrible that we can never let it happen." Everyone knows that failure is side by side to success when it comes to importance, and by giving children trophies for everything regardless of effort or achievement then we are teaching children all wrong. Through failure and mistake we learn the most and taking that away from children is hindering them from learning, and self experience. How else are children going to learn if we keep taking away their mistakes and failure as if it doesn't exist when it clearly does? Peter sure doesn't agree with doing that, he continues with "Letting kids lose, or not take home the trophy, isn’t about embarrassing children. It’s about teaching them it can take a long time to get good at something, and that’s all right. Kids need to know they don’t have to win every time. It’s O.K. to lose, to make a mistake," and that something I agree with.
Should the high school day start later?
Have you ever wondered how people who aren't morning people do on school days and how they feel? Many times this though has crossed my mind and I have never found an answer. I would hate to ask them if they think the school day should start later because I'm a morning person and even I think the school day should start later. I've heard many excuses about why the school day starts so early, but I am here to tell you there are solutions.
One of the many excuses I have heard is "we have to go to school for a certain amount of time," and my response to that is if the day starts at 9:20 rather than 8:20 than we could go until 4:35 not 3:35, and then boom like magic we're still going to school more the same amount of time. although there are many more excuses I'd rather talk about why school should start later. One reason is most kids have a hard time falling asleep and receiving a healthy amount before the school day. However, if school starts at 9:20 than as long as students and maybe even teachers go to bed before 1 am they can receive 7+ hours of sleep each night. Another reason the school day should start later is brain activity!!! kids need to be ready to create healthy ways to start their brain in the morning other than a test at 8:20 in the morning about the human body! Although there are more reasons I would like to share i hope you can agree that the school day for high school should start later!
